With social media promotion becoming trickier and harder to do for free, band websites are more important now than ever. From selling merch with no middleman to promoting a new release and upping your SEO game, personalized music websites are crucial in helping get the job done right. But how exactly do you “personalize” a website? Social media platforms are great for promotion because they’re so easy to use, but websites are much tricker to customize and update.

Syrian-American and with a voice gorgeous enough for radio, Káryyn entered 2019 running at full speed, with her full-length debut The Quanta Series earning rave reviews. The album is a meditation on memory, loss, and connections. Káryyn was compelled to write it after losing relatives in Aleppo in 2011. Her productions evoke the sounds of contemporary electronic music, but morph and shift to evoke the grief her music is channelling. Through it all, the music is held together by a core of great songwriting and Káryyn’s exceptional singing. You can listen to the album here.

Make sure you at least understand and consider maintaining and registering publishing ownership when you let others use your beat. Otherwise, you run the risk of making the beat to a song but never getting properly paid for it. Consider further that it is very easy to distribute your music as a standalone product. People like instrumentals, too. Spotify recognizes when listeners like your music and will help you find your listener base, algorithmically if not personally.
So that’s my answer to that question. I get inspired every day because I’m always looking for stories, characters, experiences, and narratives to write about.

Another extremely common and timeless technique to make your chorus shine is simply cutting the music out completely for half a measure or even an entire measure in some cases. Some of today’s electronic producers also prefer cutting out effects such as reverb and delay, to make that moment of silence even more dramatic, like you’re falling off a tiny cliff. This technique is especially fun to apply in situations where the chorus vocals start with pick-up notes from the previous measure.

Now, you’ll also need to work out a door split with the venue. I always ask for the door split to be increased as we well more tickets. If I do a great job planning a show that brings in a ton of people, I think it’s fair to say that I should be rewarded by getting a better door split. The more people I bring in, the more money the venue makes on alcohol sales.
All of your favorite Scrubs characters get to act out different themes of a musical, with tons of genres present — sad songs, happy songs, ballads, the like. Evan Zwisler is a NYC-based musician who is most notably known for his work with The Values as a songwriter and guitarist. He is an active member of the Brooklyn music scene, throwing fundraisers and organizing compilations for Planned Parenthood and the Anti-Violence Project. He started playing music in the underground punk scene of Shanghai with various local bands when he was in high school before going to California for college and finally moving to New York in 2012.
Unlocking the Emotional Power of Chords is a course that aims to demystify the world of harmony. Students explore concepts like tonality, mode mixture, functional harmony, and constant structure. In addition to working with borrowed chords, Patricia brought her own musicality to the table here, experimenting with ways to voice her harmonies and finding an excellent balance of tension and release. On top of that, she added a vocal line that does a perfect job of tying the piece together.

Seriously — it’s so easy to think you know a song perfectly, but then suddenly you have to play it with headphones on and an annoying click in your ear and the whole thing falls apart. When you’re practicing, try to replicate the environment you’ll encounter at your recording studio as much as possible. It’ll help worlds when you actually get in there.

Especially during the dry winter season, soups are great for staying warm and hydrated. Broth soups with bases of miso, garlic, or vegetable are wonderful for the voice. They’ll help you avoid vocal fatigue, decreased range, inflammation, vocal loss, and a plethora of health issues that are caused by dehydration such as problems with digestion, acid reflux, allergies, and mental and emotional imbalances that manifest in the brain due to reduced blood supply. Just stay away from anything tomato- or cream-based, as they cause reflux.

To some local folks, Low Spirits is too “out-of-the-way,” which means it’s not really located near other bars. So once you’re there, you are probably there for the rest of the night — which, really, is a pretty damn good decision. This is the place to get stranded. It’s one of our favorite places to hear live music and grab a cocktail. You’ll be in great company with the bands that have jammed on the intimate stage at this venue. And when I say intimate, I mean being in the audience literally feels like being on the stage. The margaritas deserve an honorable mention, too.
