For many, this is the dream. But not for me. My eyes become misty when I think of my teenage PC’s dial-up modem croaking into life, a low-quality MP3 of “Guerilla Radio” or “Ms. Jackson” seeping onto my hard drive through the unregulated glory of vintage peer-to-peer technology. Evan Zwisler is a NYC-based musician who is most notably known for his work with The Values as a songwriter and guitarist. He is an active member of the Brooklyn music scene, throwing fundraisers and organizing compilations for Planned Parenthood and the Anti-Violence Project. He started playing music in the underground punk scene of Shanghai with various local bands when he was in high school before going to California for college and finally moving to New York in 2012.

Soundfly’s Orchestration for Strings course is all about helping you compose and arrange for violin, viola, cello, and bass. In it, we look at the individual instruments of the bowed string family and explore a specific textural framework for creating better arrangements. By the end, you’ll understand how to create monophonic, polyphonic, chordal, and homophonic textures, and have a portfolio of original works ready to unveil at your next performance.

To some local folks, Low Spirits is too “out-of-the-way,” which means it’s not really located near other bars. So once you’re there, you are probably there for the rest of the night — which, really, is a pretty damn good decision. This is the place to get stranded. It’s one of our favorite places to hear live music and grab a cocktail. You’ll be in great company with the bands that have jammed on the intimate stage at this venue. And when I say intimate, I mean being in the audience literally feels like being on the stage. The margaritas deserve an honorable mention, too.
