If that wasn’t enough, Ithaca is also home to 73 Records, a youth-run label that releases music by kids and young adults — mainly still in high school. It’s a community that supports musicians (full stop).

The amateur pianist who took half a dozen years of lessons when he was a teenager but who for the past 30 years has been playing the same set of songs in exactly the same way over and over again may have accumulated 10,000 hours of ‘practice’ during that time, but he is no better at playing the piano than he was 30 years ago. Indeed, he’s probably gotten worse.”

I love both songs though. When I was growing up in the ’90s, there weren’t enough Lizzos in the world. The Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child had their own version of “girl power,” it came from a different place I think. But something about Lizzo’s execution is way more authentic, more believable, and more of what I want to rally behind right now.
If it turns out that Twitter mentions are where you are consistently getting the most interaction at scale, consider focusing in on Twitter and running some tests in the coming months to see what kind of increased participation you can drum up from that community.

His campaign seeks funds to create a Scratch Academy in Denver (not to be confused with the Scratch DJ Academy in New York with which Rob Swift is associated) as a result of local funding cuts for music and arts programs in schools recently. Not only is this a touching endeavor, but Jesu also uses his Kickstarter page as a place to post volunteer and freelance opportunities. He knows this campaign will attract attention from lots of people interested in the same things he is.
